( NO STOPPING SIGN ) MITCHELL HEPBURN PUBLIC SCHOOL TRAFFIC PROJECT

2011-12-14 - ( NO STOPPING SIGN ) MITCHELL HEPBURN PUBLIC SCHOOL TRAFFIC PROJECT

Traffic project initiated

St Thomas Police are reminding motorists not to park or stop their vehicles in the (No Stopping) zone on the East side of Mitchell Hepburn Public School on Peachtree Boulevard. This has been a constant problem for police since the signs were erected shortly after the school opened in October 2008. Increased traffic congestion from motorists in this area is a serious hazard for school aged children walking to and from school, and other motor vehicles travelling on Peachtree Boulevard. Remember, children are vulnerable road users. Their physical size and developmental limitations place them at risk in the traffic environment. Drivers are less likely to be able to see a small child and it is harder for children to see oncoming traffic. Their lack of road experience means it is difficult for children to judge dangerous situations. Children’s safety to and from school is an important road safety issue. Parents are strongly encouraged to use the drop off area at the front of the school to unload students. Police will be issuing $25.00 tickets to motorist that stop or park vehicles in contravention of the signed area.
