2010-11-09 - CRIME STOPPERS

Crime Prevention Week November 7 – November 13, 2010

Crime Stoppers of St. Thomas has been in existence since September 1988.

Crime Stoppers uses a three part approach to solving crimes in our community. Crime Stoppers relies on cooperation between the police, the media and the community to provide the flow of information about crimes and criminals.

Crime Stoppers programs are organized as a not for profit organization. No tax dollars are involved. All monies used to run the program are through donations and fund raising efforts by the Board of Directors.

Phone calls are received on the Tip line phone. This phone is a stand alone instrument which does not provide caller ID and conversations are not recorded. The number is 1 800 222 8477. We can also receive tips on the computer at our website stthomascrimestoppers.ca. The coordinator that receives these tips passes on them to the investigating officer. By guaranteeing the tipsters anonymity, Crime Stoppers allows the caller to give information in a positive atmosphere without the prospect of retribution. By offering cash rewards for information leading to an arrest, the program encourages otherwise reluctant callers to provide information.

Tipsters can receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
