Crime Prevention Week
November 07 to November 13 , 2010has been designated as Crime Prevention Week , in the Province of Ontario .
This year’s theme is “ Connecting To Kids Today – Preventing Crime Tomorrow”. Patterns of criminal behaviour and victimization often begins at childhood, and adolescence. The framework for addressing crime prevention and children is designed to foster action to prevent child victimization and reduce the likelihood that children living in situations of risk will engage in criminal behaviour in adolescence or adulthood. Early intervention is one of the most effective ways of preventing the emergence of crime. Programs that support nurturing, safe and supportive environments for children in families, schools, other institutions , and the community can gave significant influence in fostering healthy development, caring relationships, and pro social interest. Public education is extremely valuable to ensure that society appreciates the need and benefits of investing in children and youth from a crime prevention perspective. On a daily basis between Monday November 8, 2010 and Friday November 12 2010 St Thomas Police will submit crime prevention tips to the media that deals with children and youth .
