Halloween Safety Tips
STAY. Stay in well lit areas.
AWARE. Always be aware of your surroundings.
FRIENDS. Go with a group of friends, never alone.
EAT. Eat treats only after being checked by an adult.
TRAFFIC. Obey all traffic and pedestrian laws.
YARDS. Never cut across yards or use alleys.
Trick-or-Treaters
- Go with a group of friends.
- Approach only houses with porch lights on.
- Stay in familiar neighborhoods.
- Carry a flashlight.
- Walk, don't run.
- Stay on the sidewalks.
- Obey the traffic laws.
- Don't cut across yards, driveways or use alleys.
- If there is no sidewalk, walk on the left side of the road facing traffic.
- Wear a watch that you can read in the dark
- Make sure your costume doesn't drag on the ground.
- Wear shoes that fit.
- Avoid wearing masks while walking from house to house.
- Wear clothing with reflective markings.
- Carry only flexible knives, swords or other props.
- Stay away from any pet you do not know.
Parents
- Ideally, young children of any age should be accompanied by an adult.
- Children may carry cell phones to call home if trick-or-treating with friends.
- If your children go out on their own, be sure they wear a watch preferably one that they can read in the dark.
- Older children should know where to reach you and when to go home.
- You should know where your child is going.
- Make sure you child eats dinner before setting out.
- Although tampering is rare, tell children to bring candy home to be inspected before eating.
- If you buy a costume, look for one make of flame-retardant material.
