TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT UNIT
Enforcing the rules of the road is a priority for the St. Thomas Police Service. In 2017, STPS introduced a dedicated a full time Traffic Unit to address issues related to road safety by patrolling the street of St. Thomas using both proactive and reactive enforcement of traffic laws.
The Traffic Unit plays a key role in monitoring problem areas within the city, addressing seasonal issues such as school bus safety and daily enforcement of chronic concerns such as impaired driving, speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, distracted driving and aggressive driving.
The mandate of the Traffic Unit is to provide support to the Community Patrol Officers through the promotion and expansion of road safety initiatives.
